I'm very honoured to be a double bassist with the 'The Halle Youth Orchestra' and really hope that one day I'll get spotted to play with the full Halle Orchestra when I'm older.

The orchestra was established in September 2002 and offers a great opportunity for local young players (under the age of 19), to experience the challenge of rehearsing and performing classical music to a very high standard. The works we play draw on the same repertoire, from Classical and Romantic orchestral music right through to the scores of today, that's performed by professional orchestras.

The Halle Youth Orchestra's Music director is Ewa Strusinska who I've played for in the Junior RNCM String orchestra. Ewa is a really great conductor (as well as a lovely person) and I love working with her. She's really broken through in the World of conducting with her recent appointment as Assistant Conductor of the 'Halle Orchestra'. Ewa gained a diploma in choral conducting from the Frederic Chopin Music Academy in Poland and was then awarded a diploma in orchestral conducting following her performance with the Polish National Philharmonic Orchestra. She's taken part in many conducting courses with famous conductors like Valery Gergiev, Antoni Wit, Gabriel Chmura, Jerzy Salwarowski, Bruno Weil, Mark Stringer and Kurt Masur. She studied and graduated in Conducting from the RNCM in 2008 and was a finalists in the Gustav Mahler International Conducting Competition in 2007 (she's absolutely top notch!).

The Halle Youth Orchestra also gets to work with The Halle's music director Sir Mark Elder and players of the Halle and usually rehearse weekly during term time and perform regularly at The Bridgewater Hall, the Royal Northern College of Music and around the region.
